Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (or heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet for frying).
  2. Core and slice the apples into fry-shaped wedges, about 1/4-inch thick.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and half of the cinnamon sugar mixture (combine granulated sugar and cinnamon in a separate bowl).
  4. In another bowl, beat the egg and mix with the milk. Gradually combine the wet and dry ingredients until you have a smooth batter.
  5. Dip each apple slice into the batter, allowing excess to drip off.
  6. For baking, lay the coated apple fries on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown.
  7. For frying, carefully place the batter-coated apple slices in the hot oil, cooking in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden and crispy.
  8. Once cooked, remove the apple fries from the oven or oil and immediately toss them in the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving to allow the sugar to set.
