This dish transforms a humble breakfast staple into a sensational treat that’s as delightful as it is easy to prepare.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound thick-cut bacon
1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). This temperature ensures that the bacon cooks evenly and crisps beautifully.
Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup and place a wire rack on top. The rack allows the fat to drain away, resulting in crispy bacon.
Arrange the bacon strips in a single layer on the wire rack, being careful not to overlap. This helps each piece cook uniformly.
In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, cayenne pepper, and black pepper until evenly combined. Sprinkle this mixture generously over the bacon, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
Bake the bacon in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until it’s bubbly and caramelized. Check halfway through; if the sugar starts to burn, reduce the temperature slightly.
Once the bacon reaches a crispy, golden-brown color, remove it from the oven. Let it cool on the rack for a few minutes to allow the sugar to harden.
